ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Born and raised in Washington, DC, Sally Steponkus has been decorating homes in the National Capital Region for almost ten years. She apprenticed with some of the best designers in the area, such as Kelley Proxmire and Lavinia Lemon while managing her own design firm which she started at age 24.

She received her Bachelor of Arts from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. A semester in Rome, Italy inspired her love of Classical Art & Architecture, from which she draws much of her design style. She describes her work as updated traditional – classic with a unique twist.

In a July 2007 Washington Post article, Sally was hailed as one of four young interior decorators “on their way up” in the Nation's Capitol. Named as one of the “Faces of the Future,” Sally, the youngest of the four covered whose ages ranged from 30 to 38, and her confreres were called “fresh faces (who) represent a new crop of talent on Washington's design scene.”

While most of her clients are in the DC area, Sally travels regularly to Chicago and New York to work on several properties there. Sally prides herself on creating luxurious yet practical, up to date yet family friendly spaces for high end residential clients.

Sally's work in the 2009 DC Design House was featured in the October 2009 issue of Traditional Home magazine and House Beautiful magazine recently listed her among one of the “New Wave” of 20 Interior Designers in the country to watch in their December 2009 issue. Southern Living magazine's February 2010 issue covers her DC apartment, showcasing her love of color and sunny attitude.
